As the name points out, this tool can be used to trim MP3 files - it must be mentioned though that you can load other types of audio files as well, you're not limited to MP3s. Want to remove the last 20 seconds from an MP3, OGG, WMa, or WAV file? You can easily do so with FreeTrim MP3! Want to cut out a 5 second section in the middle of an audio file? You can easily do that as well with FreeTrim MP3. There is a catch though – the free edition does not allow you to save your work as an MP3, it only allows you to save the trimmed audio track as a WAV file. To be able to save it as an MP3, you must upgrade to the Full or Pro version.

FreeTrim MP3 will work with any PC powered by Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8. A simple, standard installation procedure must be completed to get the application up and running. The entire thing will take little time and little effort, which is quite nice.

The main part of the application’s interface presents a waveform display of the audio file you loaded into the application. Above it there are buttons for several functions: zoom in, zoom out, cut, delete, undo, redo, trim, adjust volume, and more. Underneath there’s a section that allows you to select the output folder and output format. There’s also a large button that allows you to save the audio file you trimmed.

Using FreeTrim MP3 is a fairly simple 3-step process:
Step 1 – load an audio file. You can load a locally stored audio file or a track from an audio CD.
Step 2 – edit the audio file. Several editing options are offered: cut selection, copy selection to the clipboard, delete selection, undo/redo, trim selection, add fade in/out effect, add echo to the selection, increase/decrease volume for the selection, adjust the volume, mix current file with another file.
Step 3 – save your work.

FreeTrim MP3 will only save your work as WAV. To save the edited audio file to MP3, OGG, or WMA you must get a license for the paid Full or Pro version.

Cut out parts of an MP3 file, adjust the volume, apply an effect – you can do all these with FreeTrim MP3.

Pros

Little time and effort will go into installing FreeTrim MP3 on a Windows-powered machine. The interface is good looking and easy to use. Several editing options can be accessed.

Cons

The setup wizard that installs FreeTrim MP3 wants to install some additional software. You can save a trimmed MP3 as WAV only; you cannot save it as MP3, OGG, or WMA.
